What's the role?
SMS are currently recruiting for a Planning and Performance Analyst to join our growing team. This role is focused on delivering accurate, timely, and insightful data analysis and forecasting to drive proactive key business decisions-making across the organisation.
The successful candidate will support the team in providing the business with a clear view of performance, trends, and opportunities through high quality business analysis aligned to the overall business strategy and plans. You will lead targeted projects to address emerging issues, helping the business remain agile and financially sound.
The role will initially be responsible for supporting the Industrial and Commercial Gas and Electricity area of the business but will extend to some reporting for the overall Planning and Performance function.
An element of overnight travel will be involved in the role within the United Kingdom.
This role is offered on a 40 hour contract per week, Monday to Friday, from either our Bullrush or Hoyland Warehouse on a hybrid bases.
Please note: While the role offers hybrid working, candidates should be prepared to travel to operational sites to engage directly with teams and gain a deep understanding of processes, ensuring maximum impact. Initially, the Analyst position will involve some travel to Cardiff.
Key Responsibilities:
Some of the responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Partner with operational teams to understand performance drivers, develop analysis to track them and ensure delivery of financial targets
- Deliver a mix of BAU analysis, project-based analysis and ad-hoc requests with a high level of accuracy and reliability
- Develop, enhance, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI to support day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
- Be able to interpret the data to provide insights and actionable recommendations to the business to enable improvements in efficiency and profitability
- Build and maintain robust forecasting models to support the short-term, medium-term and long-term decision making aligned to business strategy.
- Promote collective thinking across all department to provide a one source of truth approach
- Promote and support a culture of Continuous Improvement throughout the operational processes
- To support in ensuring that new business opportunities are assessed, appraised and delivered in line with the business strategy
- Build close working relationships with finance, operations, HR, IT and leadership to influence and support better outcomes.
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have/be:
- Strong Energy industry knowledge.
- A degree qualification in a relevant subject Finance, Business or Economics.
- Professional qualification e.g. ACCA / CIMA or equivalent.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with Power BI, along with demonstratable experience in data integration.
- Commercial/Business partner experience.
- Experience working with large datasets.
- Experience with finance modelling including the creation of bespoke complex models.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and a methodical, logical approach to work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior stakeholders.
